Plant Care

Lighting Requirements

Ficus like lots of bright, indirect light. Your Ficus would enjoy being outdoors in the summer, though you should avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Move inside when the weather begins to drop below 65 degrees.

Watering Needs

During the growing season, Ficus likes to be kept consistently moist but not soggy. Make sure they are in a well-draining pot to avoid root rot and let the top inch or two of soil dry out between waterings in the winter.

Humidity

Ficus enjoy relatively high humidity. You can increase the humidity by occasionally misting your plant, putting out a pebble tray of water, or by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth.

Temperature Preferences

Ficus prefer to be in environments that are 65 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Do not allow your plant to be exposed to cool drafts or kept in a room that falls below 60 degrees.

Fertilizer

Ficus require regular fertilization during the growing season. In spring and summer, feed your Ficus with a standard houseplant fertilizer.

Pet-Friendly

Common Ficus species, including the Fiddle Leaf Fig and Rubber Tree, or toxic to pets. If ingested, it could cause vomiting or skin and mouth irritation.

Extra Care

Ficus can be susceptible to houseplant pests, such as mites. Wiping down the leaves or dusting can help avoid this, and keep an eye on the underside of the leaves.
